Children Need Their
Dads
Some Things We Can and Should Do
1. Stay KOOL
2. Maintain your composure and contain your anger and frustration
3. Help one another
4. Provide feedback and positive support to one another
5. Write letters to the media including TV, Radio, and the Newspaper
6. Call in to radio talk shows
7. Make legislators know that we ARE here, and HERE to STAY
8. Attend legislative and committee hearings whenever possible
9. Write or E-mail your State Legislators and ask for their
support
10. Courtroom audits: be aware, and make others aware, of what is going on in our
courts of law
(As if the following needs to be stated)
11. Stay involved with our children's lives
a. Get involved with your children's schools, but don't be a pest
b. Eat lunch with your children at school occasionally
c. DEMAND involvement at school - Your children need you
d. Get involved and stay involved in other activities such as Scouts, baseball, etc.
e. DEMAND involvement in these other activities - Kids need their Dads
Some Things NOT to Do
1. Do not be RUDE. Remember that "Rudeness is a weak man's imitation of
strength" (Eric Hoffer), and we have strength.
2. Do not express your own opinion and represent it as the policy of DAD.
3. Do not alienate some of the other organizations or people whose goals may not
exactly align with our own.
4. Do not involve the children in adult(?) matters.
5. Do not disparage the children's other parent, family members or their lifestyles
to the children.
6. Do not be uncooperative with the other parent.
7. DO NOT EVER GIVE UP! We can make a difference for our children's sake if we unite
together.
Some Suggestions for Local Action
1. Develop and maintain a support system for one another at the local DAD Chapter
Level.
2. Identify other problems with the system and develop solutions for them.
3. Provide referrals to sources of professional counseling for those in need.
4. Provide positive reinforcement to others that they are not alone.
5. Generate public awareness of identifiable problems and that WE ARE HERE
6. Work and associate with other organizations in order to bring about our common
goals
Suggestions for Future Meetings
1. School Principal, guidance counselor, or other administrator to speak with us
concerning how best to be involved with our children at school.
2. School psychologist to speak with us concerning some of the problems children of
divorce experience.
3. Have some of our legislators speak with us as to the status of legislation. This
should be from both the State and Federal levels.
4. Referral service representatives.
5. Juvenile court representatives.
6. News media representatives.
7. Other chapter representatives.
8. Other organization representatives (CRC, FAPT, etc.)
9. Attorneys to speak with us about the law.
